Geothermal steam puffs cling to the Pines and surrounding trees creating an ice shell on the bark, trunk and limbs. The constant steam prevents any real growth on the lower portion of the trees giving the tree a bit of a smooth surface, it is really beautiful in winter when the ice and snow build up in this bare forest.
