Tripod the Coyote

Yellowstone National Park

There is a little friendly Coyote in Yellowstone that was injured a number of years ago. He has a hurt back leg, probably broken at some point and he is very challenged in this wild environment. With only the use of 3 legs, he has earned the name "Tripod". He stays very close to the road begging for scraps from cars passing by. He will run after a car to grab food and will get right up to the side of a vehicle. It is always important to remember, no matter how much you want to feed them, you simply cannot. The reason he is by the road now is because he has been fed and now it is a matter of time before he will be hit by a car. He is capable of hunting and we must allow him to thrive in his environment. Like anything else, 2 bus lengths away at a minimum. Photo © copyright by Laurie R. Martin.
