The Winter Walk

Yellowstone National Park

Beautiful but dangerous at times. It is easy to underestimate the cold. Before I set out to hike far from a vehicle I make sure I have everything I need to stay warm. You do not want to loose a glove, so pack an extra pair. The weight of your clothes adds to the challenge of the altitude and the heavy winter air. Not always an easy hike for me with Asthma in these conditions but I do it so often I just power through it. On this hike out I got hit with a huge blast of altitude and cold exhaustion at once. Felt a sudden sick feeling hit me hard. Had to just stop and hold still for a bit and almost went back. Just get a hold of your mind and power through the discomfort of the moment if possible. I talk myself through a lot when I am out in these conditions. Look what I would have missed if I went back. I love the simple forest shots with fallen trees and snow pines.
